Phase I of the Stairs....IS FINISHED!!

Good Morning Friends....I hope you are not sick of this stair extravaganza, because we still have a long way to go...But Phase I is over.....YEAH!
My staircase has always been my least favorite part of my house...Adding some character to it has been a plan of mine for a few years. It my not seem like much but getting to this 1/2 way point makes me happy! I am sure you have projects like that too.....You've wanted to do them for so long any progress you make on them seems like a giant step forward!!! For you to grasp the STEP forward here is a picture of my stairs a few years ago......Can you believe how BORING they were? Admit it, they are very boring!
Here is a run down on what we have done so far.
After the bench project was completed in the entry a few weeks ago, we added the bead board up to the first landing. My original plan was to add bead board all the way up...But after our bedroom MDF project I decided I wanted to have both bead board and MDF.

With the new change in mind we added MDF to the inside of the stairwell from the bottom landing to the second landing at the top of the stairs..
I finished the caulking and painting yesterday and here is how it looks with Phase I of this stair project finished...FYI, I am one happy camper that we have even gotten this far!

Stay tuned Friends......
Phase II, taking off the carpet and painting the railings will begin sometime after Thanksgiving....Remember our snag we hit with the treads and riser, they are completely unusable...NO FEAR we have a plan!

Have you been following Lisa @ Shine your Light .....She has been working on the same project....Her beautiful stairs are my GOAL!! Great job Lisa!
Thanks for coming by and have a great day!
I'll be sharing this at these linky parties..

  6. Beautifully done! Now, I just want a close up/tutorial on how you did the transition from the first vertical strip to the angled top piece. We installed board and batten in our basement, and want to take it up the stairs. HOWEVER, we didn't have that in the original plans, and I'm thinking we might have to do some reworking of the board and batten to transition it correctly. It's a mess I tell you!

Did I mention that the staircase also angles and turns - every non-woodworkers nightmare.

Take a look at my post here and you'll see what I mean. My husband and I were baffled, and I think it's because we somehow need to angle the top piece in the board and batten in order for it to flow upward.

Or, you can just come to my house and work your magic. ;-)

  16. Wow, you are one hard worker, with beautiful results. I can't wait to see the end product, but what you have done so far with the beadboard and mdf is amazing. I love that last photo and I know your stairs will be just as beautiful. I noticed that often what I am working on, several other bloggers are too, so that is fun you have another project to look at for inspiration.
